Your privacy matters to us — especially because people come here to share things that are deeply personal. This policy explains what information Unburden Today collects, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can read every story without giving us any information.
- You can share stories and comments anonymously.
- We do not store your IP address, email address or location with your story or comment.
- We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your information.
What we collect
When you share a story
- The title and text of your story and the topic you choose.
- The name or nickname you enter — or nothing at all if you choose to post anonymously.
- The date and time you submitted it.
When you leave a comment
- Your comment, the name you enter (or nothing if you post anonymously) and the date.
When you apply to partner with us
- Your name, your organisation's name and type, and your location.
- The contact details you choose to give us — WhatsApp number, mobile number and/or email — and how you prefer to be contacted.
- Your website (if you share it) and your reason for wanting to partner.
We use these details only to review your application and get back to you. They are seen only by our team, never published, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
When you send support or read stories
- We keep a simple count of hearts and views for each story. These counts are not linked to you.
To protect the site from abuse
- To stop spam, we briefly keep a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your internet address together with a count of recent submissions. It cannot be turned back into your address and is deleted automatically within an hour.
- Like almost every website, our hosting server may keep standard technical logs (such as internet addresses and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. These are kept for a limited time and are not used to identify people who share stories.
How we use information
- To review, publish and display the stories and comments you choose to share.
- To keep the community safe and to prevent spam and abuse.
- To understand, in total, how many people read and support each story.
Who can see it
Published stories and comments are public, together with the name you chose (or "Anonymous"). Unpublished submissions are seen only by our moderation team.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We only share information if the law requires it, or if we believe someone's life or safety is at serious risk.
Services we rely on
To display the website, your browser loads fonts, icons, styling and some images from trusted third-party providers (for example Google Fonts, Cloudflare's cdnjs and image hosts). Those providers receive your internet address when your browser requests these files, as is normal on the web. They have their own privacy policies.
Share buttons simply open the chosen service (such as WhatsApp or X) in a new tab — they do not track you on our site.
How long we keep it
Published stories and comments stay on the site until you ask us to remove them or we remove them under our Terms of Service. Declined submissions may be deleted at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete a story or comment you shared. Email support@unburdentoday.org with the title (and, for anonymous posts, the date you shared it) so we can find it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under data protection law, and you can contact your local data protection authority.
Children
The site is not intended for children under 16 to share content without a parent's or guardian's involvement. If you believe a child has shared personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including restricted access to our moderation tools. No website can be completely secure, so please avoid sharing details that could identify you or others.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
